POD Weekly #35: Merch by Amazon Launches in Europe

POD WEEKLY #35

MERCH BY AMAZON LAUNCHES IN EUROPE

After many months of rumors of Merch by Amazon expanding to Europe, Amazon announced on Monday, July 30 they have launched the program in the United Kingdom and Germany.

Like the US marketplace, sellers and designers will need to apply for an account and wait for an invitation to join the program. Existing sellers will be granted access gradually on a rolling basis, similar to the addition of new product types, such as PopSockets which we covered back in June.

Here’s the official announcement from Amazon, available in the Dashboard after logging into a Merch by Amazon account:

We are excited to announce that Merch by Amazon is live in Germany (www.amazon.de) and the United Kingdom (www.amazon.co.uk)! We will enable accounts on a rolling basis and will notify Content Creators via email when their accounts have been approved. When an account is enabled for these new marketplaces, options to select them will become available in the product creation process. Note that we will not be able to provide updates on approvals for individual accounts. Please review our updated Content Policy and FAQs for additional information.

The addition of the UK and Germany marketplaces adds a number of new potential customers. Amazon has been active in both countries since 2002 and serves as the number one ecommerce marketplace in both countries.

Bulk Upload Designs to Merch by Amazon

“Merch by Amazon specifically states in their frequently asked questions that you are not allowed to bulk upload with by using a script. At first glance, it might seem like that’s a bad thing, but don’t worry, it’s for the best. Merch by Amazon probably just wants to make sure you’re thinking each product and design through before uploading them. Bulk uploading encourages users to create garbage. Bad designs with poorly thought out content don’t sell and it provides a bad customer experience.
Instead, Merch Along allows you to automatically upload individually (not bulk). It’s easy to use, saves you a ton of time and has been tested to work thousands of times. “2
